This was the FAR superior way to go! We shaved 5 hours off our travel time, and went 300 less miles. Going through Reno is the best way. The sky was pretty dark, and at one point it was only 28 degrees, but thankfully we were blessed with good weather, and arrived home safely! The northern route could be really treacherous if there is bad weather.
